Maryland is the home to a highly skilled civilian labor force
of 3.0 million workers, the second highest concentration of professional
and technical workers among the states, and one of the highest
proportions of doctorial scientists and engineers in the nation.
The state also boasts skilled laborers in the manufacturing sector,
with experienced workers in almost every type of industrial job.
And although the workforce is highly skilled, wages in the state
remain competitive, offering employers an exceptional value.

Maryland ranks second among the states in the percentage of professional
and technical workers (25.4%) in the workforce.

Maryland ranks second among U.S. states in educational
attainment-35.2 percent of Maryland's population age 25 and above
have completed a bachelor's degree or higher and 15.7 percent
have a graduate or professional degree.

Maryland ranks fifth nationwide by employment in defense electronics
manufacturing with 8,400 jobs. The state also ranks seventh in
both computer systems design with 57,400 jobs and engineering
