Maryland Secretary of State John P. McDonough led a delegation
of 21 members to visit Hefei, Anhui Province in Sep 5 – 7. During
the 3-day visit, the delegation participated in a series of celebration
activities to commemorate the 30th Maryland-Anhui Sister State
relationship.
On the night of Sep 5, Anhui Vice Governor Ms. Hua Jianhui held
a banquet for Secretary of State and the delegation members. In
her welcome remark, Ms. Hua expressed her warmest welcome to the
delegation as well as congratulations on the 30-year sister relationship.
She also said that the long-lasting cooperation and exchange activities
between the two sides are receiving positive results. Mr. McDonough
thanked Ms. Hua and all the staff for the warm greetings in his
acknowledgment remark. He was quite satisfied with Anhui’s cooperative
environment and hope to promote more effective and fruitful cooperation
between the two states.
Mr. McDonough and Ms. Hua, on behalf of their governments respectively,
exchange engraving and painting as a 30th anniversary gift to
each other.
On Sep 6, Mr. McDonough, together with Vice-Chairwoman of the
Standing Committee of 11th Anhui Provincial People’s Congress
Ms. Wen Haiying, planted trees in Hefei Botanical Garden to celebrate
the 30th anniversary. After the tree planting ceremony, they reviewed
together the past relationship history of the two sides, and had
a deep discussion about future opportunities for cooperation and
exchange. Later, Mr. McDonough and Ms. Wen attended the signing
ceremony of ‘MOU on Strengthening Cooperation Regarding Personnel
Training between Anhui Province and Maryland’.
In the afternoon, a Land Registration Certification Issuing Ceremony
was held. The Land Registration project is a voluntary fund project
of a Maryland company - International Land Systems, Inc (ILC).
