This year commemorates the 25th anniversary of Sister City relationship
between Baltimore, Maryland, USA and Xiamen, China. On the occasion
of the anniversary celebration, Maryland Secretary of State John
P. McDonough and City of Baltimore Special Assistant and Director,
International Initiatives Renee Samuels led the Maryland delegation
to visit Xiamen in Sep 7 – 10.
Baltimore – Xiamen Sister City 25th Anniversary Banquet was held
in Xiamen Yeohwa Hotel on the night of Sep 9th. Xiamen Vice Mayor
Zhan Cangzhou gave Mr. McDonough and the delegation members his
warm greetings. In his speech, Mr. Zhan said that during the past
25 years, Baltimore and Ximen have been continuously enhancing
mutual understanding, enlarging cooperation in all sectors and
strengthening friendship of the two peoples. Mr. McDonough and
Mr. W. Fontaine Bell, Chairman of Baltimore-Xiamen Sister City
Committee delivered speeches later to congratulate on the 25-year
sister city relationship, with the hope that Baltimore and Xiamen
could be more closely connected through exchange and cooperation
in the fields of business and trade, culture, tourism, education
etc.
During their stay in Xiamen, the delegation also participated
in the 14th China International Fair for Investment & Trade
(CIFIT) to look for partners and build meaningful relationships
and alliances.
